During this first week the focus is to familiarize yourself with the HEDS learning spaces in Canvas. You will be encouraged to share expectations, background knowledge, experience and practice, and begin to build relationships.

Topic 1 - Connecting to the world and each other

February 5-16

During this important first weeks the focus is to connect with peers and facilitators and to form groups. To make sense of why learning for a sustainable development is necessary and what it means, this introductory module encourages you to explore a few basic questions necessary to engage in. You will be provided guiding questions, literature and an introductory webinar on potential causes for our current joint predicaments, and start work in your online groups.

Topic 2 - Competences, frameworks and curriculum

February 19 - March 8

In this topic, participants will learn to work with key sustainability competencies such as systems thinking, values thinking, self reflection, and teacher competencies. Also, you will learn how to work practically with learning activities to support attaining key competencies, and systematically to assess curriculum integration of key competencies.

Topic 3 - Didactic approaches to teaching and learning in ESD

March 11 - 29

In this topic, central concepts in ESD are introduced and discussed, e.g. holism and pluralism. Questions to explore are for example: How is knowledge related to sustainability transformed into higher education teaching and learning? In what ways can we bring forth a holistic perspective on sustainability in teaching and learning? What sustainability issues are relevant to consider within different disciplines? How are these issues linked to other fields of knowledge, and the local and global society? How do we balance facts, values and diverging views in our teaching? Can we use diversity as a resource in teaching and learning?

Reflection week

April 1-5

Topic 4 - The role of the university

April 8-19

This topic aims to help you explore the role of universities, and our educations, in relation to future scenarios.

We will discuss: What scenarios of the future seem likely and is it for those scenarios that we educate our students? Is it possible to prepare students for a diversity of different future scenarios, and is this something we are already doing? What are the different perceptions of how universities can and should act, and how do we act at the universities where we work?

Topic 5 - Lessons learned and future practice

22-26 April

During this very short concluding week, peers and facilitators will reflect on and share learning experience from HEDS, as well as look ahead to see how this will influence our present and future practice.
